An early morning accident in late June has tragically left one girl dead. According to New York police, the car accident occurred at an intersection of two major highways. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
According to a preliminary investigation, police confirmed that the driver of the vehicle lost control and crashed into a concrete median. The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to overturn on the highway. When the police arrived, they found a 17-year-old girl unconscious and suffering from severe physical trauma. She was later pronounced dead by rescuers.
There were four other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the accident, including the driver. All of the other occupants were transported to an area hospital for what were initially characterized as minor injuries. Police have stated they believed no criminality was involved, but the investigation into the accident is ongoing.
It can be a difficult task for New York police officers to determine the cause of a single-vehicle accident. However, despite this difficulty, the determination of the cause of the car accident is vital. Through the investigation, authorities may be able to point to specific facts to help those injured through no fault of their own — and in this case the family of the deceased passenger — assess whether they have a valid personal injury or wrongful death claim against any other party deemed negligent in the crash. One can only hope that through a proper investigation, the girl’s family can get the answers they need and deserve.
