A serious accident is being blamed on a bad case of road rage, local police are saying. The car accident that took place in Brooklyn, New York on the morning of August 20 may have been the result of an altercation between a cab driver and a cyclist. A woman unrelated to the argument has lost a leg as a result of the crash.

Police say the 23-year-old woman, a tourist from overseas, was not involved in the altercation between a cab driver and a bicycle rider that is suspected to have been the reason the cabbie lost control of his vehicle. According to the cyclist involved, the cab driver may have accelerated out of anger when he struck the woman in the street. Police have declined to comment on whether any charges have been filed.

The woman’s left leg was completely severed as a result of the impact, while her right leg was badly damaged. As of this writing, doctors were still trying to save what remained of her right limb. Several bystanders are being called heroes for helping to stem the bleeding on-site and keeping the severed limb on ice until medical personnel could arrive.

It is unknown at this time if the cab driver will be charged with an infraction, as the New York police investigation is still ongoing. However, the woman will be entitled to file a personal injury law suit against him regardless of the outcome of the investigation into the car accident. As she is from out of the country, it may be beneficial for her to seek advice in filing such a suit in order to ensure it is filed in accordance with American law.
