Hit-and-run car accidents can be difficult cases to solve. Depending on the time that the car accident is alleged to have taken place, details surrounding the event can be hard for New York police to gather. In such cases, assistance from the general public in locating the alleged perpetrator may be required in order for the individual responsible to be brought to justice.
In a recent accident, a pedestrian suffered critical injuries as a result of being struck by a car. Police have only described the victim as being a Hispanic male. Authorities say the man was struck by a car sometime in the early morning hours on a recent Monday. However, they have not released any further information regarding the details of the accident.
The man was taken to a local hospital and then flown to another hospital to be treated for his injuries. Hospital officials have stated that the man is currently in critical condition. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials report they have very little information about the identity of the driver of the car. Police have reached out to the public in the hope that someone can provide them with information that will lead to location of the driver.
If the driver is found, the victim’s family may benefit from gaining an understanding of New York personal injury law before pursuing any civil charges. This may help in assessing whether a lawsuit seeking monetary damages is appropriate. Should a claim be advanced on the victim’s behalf, it will be necessary to prove that the driver who struck him was negligent in a way that caused or contributed to the accident and injuries which followed.
