A deadly head-on collision involving a pickup truck and a car has claimed the life of one man and sent several others to the hospital. According to New York police, the fatal accident occurred when the pickup truck crossed over the center line and hit the car. A man in the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Meanwhile, the man’s wife and 16-year-old daughter sustained serious injuries. The two were transported to a local hospital, though the nature of their injuries was not revealed. Their condition is currently unknown.
The driver of the truck was also injured in the crash. He is reported to have sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at a local hospital. Police have not released any further information regarding the cause of the accident, which continues to be under active investigation. Police have also stated that they have not issued any criminal charges at this time. It is unclear whether charges will be filed in the future.
The preliminary information from this fatal accident indicates that the pickup driver veered into oncoming traffic. If the ongoing crash investigation confirms that the pickup driver caused the collision, legal claims on behalf of the deceased victim, as well as his wife and daughter, may be appropriate under New York law. Regretfully, nothing can undo what has already happened, though successful civil claims against parties whose negligence is found to have caused the deadly collision may help lessen the financial burden engendered by the tragedy.
