Police are on the lookout for a driver suspected of causing a serious crash that sent three people to the hospital on May 20. New York State Police have asked anyone with information about the car accident to come forward so that they can bring the errant driver to justice. Thankfully, no one was killed in the crash.
According to the accident report, a vehicle driven by an unknown individual changed lanes in an unsafe manner while traveling north on Interstate 87. It struck another vehicle, which in turn was pushed into the path of an SUV. The SUV flipped and rolled over several times before finally coming to rest at the side of the road. At that point, the vehicle that caused the initial collision fled the scene.
The female driver of the SUV, along with her two passengers — a 9-year-old girl and a 7-year-old girl — were all hurt in the crash. Emergency responders credit the 7-year-old’s child seat with the fact that she survived the crash at all. All three individuals were taken to a local hospital for treatment, but their injuries were thankfully considered minor.
When New York police catch up with the driver they feel is responsible for this car accident, that individual will likely face criminal charges for fleeing the scene in addition to his or her role in the accident. The woman and the legal guardians of the two little girls will also be entitled to sue that driver for personal injury. Any evidence brought forth by police in a criminal hearing will be applicable in this civil suit as well, should any of the parties choose to pursue one.
