A woman is dead following a tragic accident in Brooklyn. New York police have reported the woman was struck by two vehicles including a box truck. The investigation into the car accident is still underway, and so far one driver is facing charges in connection with the fatal crash.

According to preliminary reports, the 32-year-old woman was first struck by a car in an intersection before being struck a second time by the box truck. Witnesses said both drivers may have been driving recklessly at the time of the accident. The woman was pronounced dead on the scene by medical personnel arriving from local emergency centers.

Both drivers remained at the scene for the police to arrive. The driver of the truck was arrested on-site and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. It is unknown if the other driver was charged at the time, but it does not appear to be the case. Witnesses said this intersection is notorious for reckless driving, though it is unclear whether police have determined if reckless driving was a factor in this tragic death. The investigation is still underway as of this writing.

A pedestrian car accident is often difficult to gauge in terms of culpability. It should be noted, however, that New York traffic law says pedestrians generally have the right of way, and that drivers of motor vehicles must be vigilant in the operation of their vehicles at all times. If either driver is found to have been driving negligently in a manner that led to the death of this pedestrian, that driver may face additional criminal charges. The deceased victim’s next-of-kin may also choose to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit.
