A vehicle slammed into a Long Island home the night of July 22, according to local sources. New York police responded to the car crash around 5 a.m. in Selden. So far, no charges have been filed against the driver involved in the single-car accident, but the investigation into the crash is ongoing at the time of this report.

According to the accident report, a young driver who has not been identified publicly at this time somehow managed to crash his vehicle directly through the wall of a residential home and into a garage. The elderly couple who owned the home were asleep upstairs at the time of the crash. They were apparently taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and a proscribed medical condition that may have been exacerbated by the crash.

The driver was also taken to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening. While Suffolk County police say they have not yet made any arrests, it appears speed may have been a factor in the crash. The limit in the area is 30 mph, but skid marks were clearly visible at the accident site.

While it is fortunate the couple upstairs were not severely injured in the car crash, older people can often experience long-term effects even from minor injuries. If this is the case, they may wish to pursue personal injury lawsuits against the driver involved in the crash. New York law permits such filings, which are handled in a civil court setting separate from any criminal charges that might be filed.
