A collision between a luxury car and a garbage truck in Brooklyn on the morning of July 9, according to local news sources. New York police responded to the car accident that killed one passenger in the luxury car. The driver of the car has been charged with DWI and is currently in custody awaiting trial.
According to the accident report, the truck was traveling north on Utica Avenue and was attempting to negotiate a left-hand turn when the accident occurred. A BMW, traveling at a high rate of speed, slammed into the back of the garbage truck. Three individuals were in the car at the time of the accident.
One passenger, a 22-year-old man, was declared dead at the scene of the accident by arriving medical personnel. The driver, a 26-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital for unspecified injuries. He was declared stable and was later taken into custody by New York police. The status of the third individual was not mentioned in the report.
It appears as though the driver of the garbage truck was uninjured in the crash, and no other injuries were reported. The driver of the car was charged with DWI and is currently in New York police custody. It is unclear if he has secured representation at this time, and no court date has been announced.
The onus for this car accident seems to be placed squarely on the shoulders of the driver of the car, and New York prosecutors will now seek to prove he was drunk at the wheel. If he is convicted of this crime, he will face serious legal repercussions. The family of the deceased passenger and any other injured party will be entitled to file civil suits against the driver, using evidence from the criminal case to back up their claims.
