A tragic crash on Meadowbrook State Parkway has left two people dead, according to local news sources. New York authorities responded to the car accident, which took place around midnight on Sept. 20. So far, police have not determined a cause for the single-vehicle crash, but their investigation is ongoing at the time of this report.
According to the police report, a 22-year-old man was behind the wheel at the time of the accident. Somehow, the driver lost control of his car near Exit 5 and crashed into a concrete median. The impact sent the vehicle back across four lanes of traffic into a tree on the other side of the roadway.
The vehicle was nearly totally destroyed by the multiple impacts, and arriving medical personnel declared both the driver and his 31-year-old passenger dead at the scene. Police haven’t yet determined what caused the driver to lose control, but it has been suggested that speed may have been a factor. Other factors including alcohol have not been considered publicly by officials.
New York police will continue their investigation until a cause for the car accident can be accurately determined. In the meantime, the family of the deceased passenger will be entitled to file a wrongful death suit against the driver’s estate and any other owners of the vehicle. However, it should be noted that evidence of culpability on the part of the driver will be a necessary part of any civil filing process if the family hopes to win financial compensation in court.
