A man has tragically been killed in one of a string of a hit-and-run accidents in the Bronx, according to local sources. New York police arrived on the scene of this particular car accident shortly after the 1:30 a.m. car accident that claimed the life of a 63-year-old man. At this time, no driver has been apprehended for his or her role in the accident.

According to the accident report, the man was walking near the Cross Bronx Express when an SUV, for reasons unknown, mowed him down. The man was rushed to a local hospital with traumatic injuries, but was later pronounced dead. It is unclear from the report whether his next of kin have yet been notified.

The driver involved in the accident reportedly fled the scene. Police have not clarified whether they managed to get a license plate number associated with the vehicle involved in the tragic crash. They have, however, reached out to the community, asking if anyone bore witness to this or any of the other accidents that occurred in the same window of time. Those individuals have been entreated to contact police with any additional information they can provide.

A hit-and-run car accident is in some ways even more tragic in that the driver did not stay to take responsibility for his or her actions. New York police will work tirelessly to seek out and apprehend the driver responsible for this fatal crash. When they do, the family of the deceased man will be entitled under state law to file a wrongful death suit against him, regardless of whether criminal charges are filed. However, evidence from a criminal proceeding would likely be invaluable in pursuing a claim for  monetary damages in civil court.
